Why is it asking me to update so frequently? |
From time
to time, you will see a message asking if you want a Power Drawers update
installed. This is not a problem and we provide updater options so you can
control or eliminate this message.
Updater Options
Updating can be controlled through the Power Drawers
Configuration dialog. On the system taskbar, double-click on the Power Drawers
taskbar icon to open the Configuration dialog. Then select the About/Update tab.
Use the Automation dropdown list to select how the updater should work. It
defaults to Scheduled update checks, need user OK so that users feel in
control about updates being installed. All updates are appropriate for all
Windows OS versions. This option allows Power Drawers to automatically check for
updates but will always ask before installing anything. If you don't want to be
asked every time an update is available, then set it to Check for updates and
install automatically. That allows updating to occur without bugging you but
you remain in control since all updating is logged into an install log.
Alternatively, you could set it to User initiates all update checking so
that it only checks for updates when you specifically run the Power Drawers
Updater. You can also set the frequency of update checks to once a day or on a
specified day of the week as well as choosing a time of day.
Whenever any update is installed, Power Drawers logs
information about that update to an install log. Run the Power Drawers Updater
and click on Update History to access the install log.
What is in Updates?
a) Most updates are simply additions to
the PowerOrganizer knowledgebase. PowerOrganizer is the component of Power
Drawers that allows it to auto-classify applications into categorized desktop
folders for quick access. We receive information from users every day to add to
the PowerOrganizer knowledgebase. We then post such additions online and they
show up as updates available for all Power Drawers users to install. Such
updates only affect some users, but those users need to get those updates as
quickly as possible.
b) On rare occasion, we find verifiable problems caused by other apps or minor
problems in Power Drawers to fix. Since Power Drawers has been tested rigorously
and is in daily use by hundreds of thousands of users, such problems are unusual
and obscure, but we are committed to fixing any verifiable problem. In such
cases, we develop a fix, test it thoroughly in-house on all OS versions and then
post such fixes to the web. Such fixes then show up as Power Drawers updates so
that users get bug-fixes before they actually need them.
c) Both end-users and our in-house staff are constantly coming up with ideas to
improve Power Drawers. Normally, good ideas for additions to Power Drawers are
put into our product spec for Power Drawers 2002 or new add-on products, but
occasionally we add small feature tweaks to Power Drawers 2000 to improve all
users' productivity and workflow. Such additions show up as occasional updates
to Power Drawers.
