\ VirtuaFolders™
In line with Power Drawers' theme of speed, clarity
and simplicity, Power Drawers automatically removes unneeded items from view and
uses VirtuaFolders to make large numbers of files easier to manage.
Removing
Unneeded Files from View
It's easier to find what you do
want if you don't have to wade through hundreds of system files that you don't
want. There are a huge number of support files in any computer that need to be
there for your programs to work but are neither data files you can open nor
programs you can run. These files just clutter your view most of the time, so
Power Drawers defaults to excluding these
files from its menus. You have full
control over what types of files will appear on menus. You can control viewing
System and Hidden files both globally (all menus) and locally (for any given
folder). Power Drawers' list of files deemed ‘System’ files is also
customizable by end-users. Also
excluded from Power Drawers menus are dead shortcuts to files or folders that no
longer exist. Power Drawers can be configured to periodically find and remove all
dead shortcuts from your computer. See Removing Dead
Shortcuts for details.
Some folders
have too many files to show up on one Power Drawers menu. Power Drawers automatically uses VirtuaFolders to simplify what you see without eliminating
anything you might want to access.
For example, the Windows (or WinNT) folder has too many items to show on even a
few Power Drawers menus, but even though there are 500-1000 files, it fits on one
or two Power Drawers menus. When Power Drawers has too many items to show, it
collects all the items of a given file type and displays them in a VirtuaFolder
instead of putting them all on the main menu. Instead of 50 INI files in the
Windows folder taking up the whole screen, they are aggregated into a
VirtuaFolder named Ini Files which
opens to show all the INI files in that folder. VirtuaFolders are an effect
created by Power Drawers in real-time to make groups of files easier to manage.
The files are not actually moved into a folder called Ini
Files. As you can see on the screenshot, a VirtuaFolder (such as Cpl, Exe,
or Ini Files) is a yellow folder icon with a lightning bolt through it. Real
folders such as CatRoot and Color don’t have a lightning bolt through the
icon. Power Drawers automatically aggregates groups of files into VirtuaFolders
if there are a large number of files in a folder.
